NEWARK FLOWSERVE FC 1 DUNKIRK AFC 0
Programme £1
Att 54
After being promoted as Division One runners up, Newark Flowserve had a exodus of players for the new 2015-16 season and have had to rebuild and this has taken time with 3 managers along the way.
Two weeks ago they appointed a new management team with Steve Kirkham at the helm and they have made a positive start with a away draw at defending champions Wollaton last Saturday and a midweek away League Quarter Final win at Cotgrave.
Today saw them play at home for the first time under Steve where they faced a young looking Dunkirk AFC.
On arrival I was greeted by the lovely secretary of Flowserve Zoe and was issued with a programme and then went in to the clubhouse and greeted with a cuppa by Brian who runs the bar, he also supplied Shawn with a load of free sweets as he always does when we visit.
The game kicked off and it was Dunkirk who pushed forward but didnt created any chances whilst the homesters broke on the break and forced three very early corners but there was no give between the two sides.
After 28 minutes, a cross ball found JOE HURST on the right hand side whose cross shot was taken by the wind in to the top corner of the net to give Flowserve the lead. This seemed to encourage the homesters to push forward and they left a few gaps at the back which in the final minute of the half saw visiting Lang's shot come back off the post.
The Second Half I was joined by local press man Rikki Lane as we chattered about how I knew him as a young lad and used to see him about with his dad Richard.
The heavens opened after 70 minutes, as everyone retreated to the porch that enters the clubhouse.
The game got better as Dunkirk pressed forward, Flowserve were quick on the break and could ave increased their advantage, when hitting the post, the bar and then having a shot cleared off the line.
Dunkirk pressed in the final five minutes but it wasnt to be their day
