CHARITY NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL BLOG

Each year, me and my wife Hazel have decided to help a different CHARITY, by donating 25p every goal we see at the matches we attend.
Over the years, people and clubs from as far as Coxhoe in Durham down to Penzance in Cornwall have donated as we have visited the grounds and we have raised over £3,500 in the 4 seasons we have run the Charity Blog. As you can see from the Photo above, last season(2014-15) we raised £1325.00 for Support Dogs.

During the 2015-16 season, we are supporting 2 worthy causes

1. THE FOXTON CENTRE
2. INTEGRITAS

Both Charities aid homeless people and people with mental issues and vulnerable adults. So if you would
like to make a donation(no matter how small) and
you see me at a match, please come up to me or Hazel, we would be very grateful. All Donators will get a mention on the blog and the running total is on the left hand side.

Many Thanks

Rob & Hazel Hornby

WALSH THE AWSWORTH HERO

Notts Senior League
Premier Division
WEST BRIDGFORD FC 0 AWSWORTH VILLA FC 1

Awsworth Villa visited a windy Regetta Way, the home of league leaders and put together a great team effort to leave with three well earnt points.

The game began in the wind blowing down the pitch with West Bridgford having it behind their backs and they had the first chance of the afternoon that went begging, meanwhile after 7 minutes, Awsworth were forced to change their game plan when Matt Goodwin had to be replaced due to injury.

West Bridgford continued to press forward, but Matt Walsh in the visitors net was dealing with everything in front of him.

After 32 minutes, Awsworth broke forward and DANNY WALSH turned a stroked te ball past Mart to give his side the lead.

The Second Half saw Awsworth on the front foot, whilst the homesters played on the break, and Bridgford's task became morw difficult when they were reduced to ten players when central defender Simon Labatte was dismissed.

Awsworth had several more chances to double their lead mainly when Whitehurst missed a sitter from inside the six yard box.

UNITY WIN CLASSIC MATCH

Notts Senior League
Premier Division
BINGHAM TOWN FC 4 UNITY FC 6
att: 58

My intended match to visit today was postponed so a change of plan and a quick phone call to Mike Spencer at Bingham Town FC saw no problems and the pitch looked perfect and what a great decision I made in attending this excellent match played by two very good footballing sides who will both come out of the game with credit.

Unity were looking the better in the opening exchanges, but no one in the ground could believe what happened in the 16th minute, when a back pass by home defender Harley Cox saw Charlie Abbott wrong footed and the ball go slow motion in to his own net to give the visitors the lead.

Bingham tried to get back in to the game but the visitors defence was standing tall whilst Unity were putting some nice moves together but no final finish. After 40 minutes, Bingham were awarded a free kick on the left wing that was  swung in by Tom Spencer and was met by the head of EDWARD HODGSON who made the scores level for half time.

Bingham began the Second Half a lot better and pushed forward and forced the visiting keeper in to action twice but on 52 minutes from a quick breakaway, Abbott in the home goal seemed to spill the ball at Campbell's feet, who in return, squared the ball over to the far side of the penalty area for REECE FYFFE to fire his team back in front.

On 66 minutes, Unity were awarded a penalty to which JEVON SEATON duly dispatched to make it 3-1 to Unity. Bingham made a few changes and pushed forward, but this left gaps at the back and on 75 minutes, CONNOR CROFT broke through and fore Unity in to a 4-1 lead.

On 76 minutes, Bingham broke forward on the right side and a cross was met by a bullet of a header by TOM SPENCER to make it 4-2. This seemed to lift the homesters and they looked a lot more committed to their game and going forward with purpose.  After 84 minutes and Bingham were back in the game when a 30 yard free kick was lobbed by MATT GAMBLE over the visiting keepers head to make it 4-3 but with 6 minute remaining surely it was too late and it looked like game over in the 88th minute when CONNOR CROFT scored his second and his clubs fifth goal of thhe game to make it 5-3, but the fighting spirit of Bingham was still alive as within a minute, it was 5-4 when TOM CAMPBELL fired home and then a whisper of 5 minutes added time to leave the game on a knife edge, but it was Unity who were to have the last say when JEVON SEATON wrapped up the scoring and made it 6-4.

TEN MEN PLANT PENALTY AGAINST UNITED

Notts FA Intermediate Cup
Round Two
BILBOROUGH UNITED FC 2 AS PLANT UNITED 2
after extra time
2-3 after 5 penalties

Always interesting when local County Cup throws two clubs from two leagues and I like the attraction of those sort of ties and todays was no different. The reason for visiting Basil Russell this afternoon was to have a Notts Senior League Groundhop meeting with them after the match in the local Three Ponds pub. For those interested in the NSL Groundhop, you can email me for all information and booking forms on hornby60uk@yahoo.co.uk with Advanced tickets already selling very well.

On arrival, I was greeted by United Chair/Manager Dean Seymour and his Assistant Mark and my wife Hazel offered to run the tea bar for them for the afternoon.

AS Plant who ply their trade in the Midland Amateur Alliance and are curently champions and cup victors of their league turned up with only a navy blue kit, but a pudsey bear yellow tops were soon found for them to play in.

Before kick off, a minutes silence was observed for the tragic events that have unfolded over night in France.

The game started at a fast pace with both sides slogging away on a very heavy pitch after a few days of rain, but this made it a very entertaining game and it was the visitors who took the lead after just 17 minutes, when a long ball from their midfield split the United defence for CHRIS WALKER to run on to and slot home.

Both sides kept pushing forward and both keepers were called in to action on several occasions but just before half time Bilborough found themselves back on level terms when  they were awarded a penalty, but the visitors must have felt they were unlucky when their defender was dismissed. Up stepped ROLAND TOMLINSON who fired home on 43 minutes.

Those in the ground must have felt that with the opponents down to ten men for the Second Half that this game would be there for Bilborough's taking, this proved to be untrue, as AS Plant seemed to play better and were carving out the odd chance whilst man of the match Milnes in the Plant net was keeping them in the tie,, but after 73 minutes, he couldnt do anything when a pinpointed left sided cross was met by the head of STEF RODGERS to make it 2-1.

AS Plant didnt lay down and within 3 minutes were level when a long free kick found out WES O ROURKE who turned and slide the ball in the mud in to the Bilborough net.

The game went in to extra time and both sides were cautious as a mistake now was going to lead to the winner, but on 118 minutes, Joel Buxton for Bilborough United hot a low shot that was going in to the corner of the net to be denied by a superb save by Milnes.

The dreaded penalties arrived in the pouring rain and it was AS Plant that stood up to be counted and went through 3-2 to Round Three where they will host West Bridgford FC.

A good day for the Blogs Charity with kind donations from Bilborough United FC and also Rob England and with the 4 goals scored totalling £13.50 today, making the running total to £528.00 for The Foxton Centre & Integritas.
