CHARITY NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL BLOG

Each year, me and my wife Hazel have decided to help a different CHARITY, by donating 25p every goal we see at the matches we attend.
Over the years, people and clubs from as far as Coxhoe in Durham down to Penzance in Cornwall have donated as we have visited the grounds and we have raised over £3,500 in the 4 seasons we have run the Charity Blog. As you can see from the Photo above, last season(2014-15) we raised £1325.00 for Support Dogs.

During the 2015-16 season, we are supporting 2 worthy causes

1. THE FOXTON CENTRE
2. INTEGRITAS

Both Charities aid homeless people and people with mental issues and vulnerable adults. So if you would
like to make a donation(no matter how small) and
you see me at a match, please come up to me or Hazel, we would be very grateful. All Donators will get a mention on the blog and the running total is on the left hand side.

Many Thanks

Rob & Hazel Hornby

WARNER HOPS TO A HAT TRICK

Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League
Groundhop Game One
Premier Division
ATTENBOROUGH FC 5 AWSWORTH VILLA 1
Att: 218

The hoppers arrived from all over the UK and also Sweden to the delightful village of Attenborough which nestles along side the Nature Reserve and the River Trent and what a performance Attenborough FC produced in front of the 218 attendance to send them home to come back tomorrow wanting to watch more in this game that showed the quality of football that can be played in this step 7 league.

When I got to the Strand, Secretary Terry Allen and a few other of his crew were marking out the pitch and making sure the evening would be as comfortable for everyone who had travelled, the cricket club turned up and they were soon sorting out the lovely burgers, Im sure I saw more than a few hoppers tuck in to more than one, as they were very tasty. As the afternoon looked a but overcast, it was decided to set up the charity stall inside the clubhouse and it soon got packed with the hoppers who had fallen off the train at the nearby train station.

Tom Beard arrived, the referee and what a fine young man he is and is one of the refs to keep a eye out for in the future and tonight he and his 2 assistants put in a very good performance.

The game though a proper League match was also for the Norway Cup, the Cup was spnsored last season by Paul Nicholson in memory of his 92 year old mother Joan who had sadly passed away and was a fellow groundhopper even at that age, known to all groundhoppers as Granny Joan from Southampton, last years match between Ashland Rovers and Newark Flowserve finished as a 3-3 draw and with each club sharing the trophy for 6 months each, I wasnt too sure what to do with it, so I asked the League iif we could use the Friday Night game tonight as a repeat with the winners keeping the trophy, to which they agreed, when I rang Paul he was overwhelmed and those who stayed for the presentation would have seen that.

To be fair, I didnt see too much of the game, as I was busy at the Charity Stall and also counting the crowd and of course tucking in to one of those lovely burgers and having a well earned pint. What I did see was Attenborough playing their best football of the season whilst Awsworth tried and had chances but it just wasnt their day.  Attenborough shot in to a early 3 goal lead within 16 minutes and just after half time Awsworth pulled a goal back, but Attenborough picked it back up and scored another couple, with WARNER being the hero scoring a hat trick.

After the match, Referee Tom Beard donated his match fee to the Blogs Charity and Lewis Quayle also donated a fiver and fellow ref who attended the match John Beckett so made a donation, which we are so grateful for. I must also thank Attenborough FC for their kind donation of £30 from their badge sales.

So the Groundhop rolls on to my final day as Organiser after 14 years tomorrow, with Beeston FC entertaining Underwood Villa FC with a 10.05am kick off then we head to Basil Russell in  Nuthall for Bilborough United v Ashland Rovers at 12.45pm, then we head to the heart of Nottingham, whhere we visit Nottinghamshire FC v Gedling Southbank at 3.15pm before the final game at the side of the river trent at the Inspire Stadium for Real United v Unity FC at 6.15pm.

I will update the charity total etc after the weekend

MA WHO?

Notts FA Minor Cup Final
MAFC 3 BINGHAM TOWN RESERVES 1

With Bingham Town Reserves reaching the County Minor Cup Final, I went to Hosiery Mills FC Ground as its not too far from where I live, as the ground is where the now extinct Sutton Town AFC used to play, now it belongs to the Hosiery Mills itself who have done a lot of developements since I last visited this ground.

On arrival, I met Mark Norwood who was one of the Assistant referees for the match and at the gate was greeted by Albert Greaves and Dennis, we was soon offered a cuppa by the Hosiery Mills staff who were very pleasant and on hand all around the ground throughout the evening.

I went to the Bingham changing room and wished them all the best from the Notts Senior League.

The game kicked off and the bright sunshine set and it soon became very cold, but on the pitch were two evenly matched sides, I asked several people what MAFC stood for and where they played and what league, but got about 8 different answers to my question. After the match, the manager and Sectretary Norma did explain and it was quite a long name and they play in a Saturday Morning Derby Church League, though based in Mansfield.

After 27 minutes, MAFC took the lead through a penalty by HUMPHRIES, Bingham pushed forward and looked promising with the team from Mansfield playing on the break and on 31 minutes, the Notts Senior League club were level with a penalty for themselves scored by HAYCOX.

After my half time cuppa that I needed to warm me up as it was getting colder but I ventured back outside and was soon chatting away as the snow began to chuck down in blizzard fashion, the lady turned out to be Mark Norwood's mum who Id met before.

After 71 minute, a corner by MAFC was taken and there was a appeal inside the area but play continued, infact the ball went out of play and a new ball came on to the pitch, which was cleared by Bingham Town to a opposing attacker who blasted over the bar, at this stage the Assistant Referee on the cubhouse side raised his flag and the referee went over, after a couple of seconds, the ref said Goal, to most peoples shock in the ground, so MAFC took a 2-1 lead.

Bingham seemed stunned by this along with most of the crowd but instad of getting on with the game, they lost concentration, whilst MAFC raised their game, there was then a incident in the MAFC penalty area where the ref booked both the Bingham sub and the MAFC goalkeeper and within minutes, the Bingham sub was appealing for a penalty and received a second yellow card as I think the ref felt it was a dive. This really angered the boys from Bingham and in injury time MAFC wrapped up the game with a breakaway goal to make it 3-1.

MAFC were the better side on the night and when I asked Norma after the game why they didnt join a Saturday afternoon League she replied the lads like playing on a Saturday Morning and spending time with family for the rest of the weekend.

Earlier in the day, Dave Wigley from Clidton All Whites FC poppeed in to see me with a few programmes for the charity stall at this weekends NSL GROUNDHOP and alsdo donated on behalf of his club £20 towards the blogs charity. After the match Mark Norwood also made a kind donation of £4.80p so the running total now stands at £851.05p

ITS NEARLY HERE IN NOTTINGHAM

ITS NEARLY HERE IN NOTTINGHAM

The county of Nottingamshire is famous for quite a few things, mostly Robin Hood, Rebecca Adlington, Richard Bacon, Nottingham Forest FC and Notts County FC, plus also the great Precison Nottinghamshire Senior League Groundhop.

This seasons Groundhop takes place with one football match on the Evening of Friday 29th April and 4 games on the Saturday 30th April all at different grounds and scattered kick off times.

The Hop this year has sold 125 Advanced Tickets to people who are coming from as far as Sweden, Scotland, Kent and Devon, plus many more football fans will turn up on the day at the games.

Each home club will be selling food and refreshments, along with having a team stall selling their 1st ever club badge and also old shirts and of course a programme for their match.

Rob Hornby, the Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League Registrar and brains behind the Hop said "I and the League Committee are really pleased and thankful of the interest shown by this yearly event nd of course previous, They are proper league matches and we are delighted to welcome the Hoppers and locals from all over and the clubs also enjoy their part in which they play".

I began going to groundhops around 20 odd years ago and bought it to the table of the Notts Senior League 5 years ago and it hs proved to be a great success for the clubs and also the league, showing people that there is a good standard of football played at a lower level, where the League stands at Step 7 in the National Pyramid"

"So if you have never ventured in to Non League Football, why not come out and have a look"

"After 14 years of organising Hops, I decided last year, this was to be my last as a organiser, as my son who has autism is getting older and I need more time with the family, but will still be involved in Non League Football on the Notts Senior League Committee"

There will be a enterance of just £3 at each match and £1 per programme.

CAPTAIN HASTIE HEADS UNITED HOME

Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League
Division Two
WATNALL ATHLETIC 1 KEYWORTH UNITED RESERVES 2

Not often I venture in to Division Two of the league but when I can, I do and usually like today I see a good game. There was a number of reasons why I went to the Nottingham Football Centre, just off Boundry Road in West Bridgford, Id not seen a league match there before, Watnall are moving on to the grass pitch there next season plus Watnall made a very kind gesture at the start of the season to sponsor my charity blog to a £1 for each goal they scored this season.

The teams lined up before the game with Watnall top and Keyworth on the same number of points in second, so a close game was expected.

Both sides played the game at a fast pace on the 5g pitch and it was the visitors who opened the scoring through STEVEN CULLIS after just 12 minutes with a tap in(as pictured above)

Watnall pushed forward but was missing that final ball, as United looked more likely to score another, but the score remained at 0-1 at half time. Since coming to the venue for a pre season match, they have now opened a new clubhouse, so at half time I headed for a cuppa.

The Second Half was very fast paced as both sides looked threatening and shots were reigning in from all angles and it was a matter of who scored the next goal would win this game. In the 72nd minute, a corner from the right was floated in and was met by the head of United's Captain RYAN HASTIE to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

This seemed to spur Athletic in to their best part of the game and they pushed forward and came close several times to breaking their deadlock and on 85 minutes they did that when PIERCE WORRALL headed home from close distance to reduce the arrears. The final five minutes saw Athletic go very close but it was to be United's day.

Photos from the game can be seen on this LINK

Ibby the ref had a great game in the middle and before the game, he kindly donated £9 to the Charity and after the game Watnall Athletic FC kept their pledge and handed a cheque over for a stunning £62 to which me and Hazel are very grateful. It now takes the running total to £822.25p to be split between 2 charities The Foxton Centre and Integritas.

CAN FLOWSERVE PERFORM THE GREAT ESCAPE?

Precision Notts Senior League
Premier Division
SANDHURST FC 3 NEWARK FLOWSERVE FC 4

A few months ago, Newark Flowserve were rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division Table with just two points and cast adrift from the other teams in the table, after this evenings game, they stand 2nd from bottom, four points behind Cotgrave FC with  two games in hand, so is the great escape on for the newly appointed manager Steve Kirkham's men who has turned round.

The game began brightly for Sandhurst FC as in the 1st minute, they were awarded a free kick some 25 yards out, to which RYAN CHAPMAN hit low in to the corner of the net to give his side the lead after just 66 seconds on my watch. Sandhurst pushed forward and it looked like it was going to be a hard night for the visitors, but on 16 minutes DARYL PRICE hit a crisp half volley as pictured above from 30 yards out to leave the home keeper diving in mid air.

Flowserve then stepped up their game and pushed forward whilst the home side played on the break and it came as no surprise on 33 minutes, when DARYL PRICE put his side in to a 2-1 lead. In the 41st minute, a blunder at the back from Sandhurst left JOE HURST clear to make it 3-1 to the visitors.

After 66 minutes, the game looked all done and dusted as Flowserve's sub RYAN ASHLEY made it 4-1 but no one guessed what was to happen in the final 20 minutes of the game, it looked like Flowserve would push forward and possibly add a few more and like in the past when Ive seen Sandhurst of late, they have conceded a few goals as their heads have gone down, but not tonight, it was Sandhurst who were finishing the stronger and in 83 minutes, RYAN CHAPMAN reduced the score to 4-2. Flowserve began to have a few nerves settling in now and Sandhurst threw a few players forward and on 87 minutes, they were denied a penalty claim, but in injury time of the game, Ref Scott Anderson awarded the homesters a penalty. Usual penalty taker Will Cox picked up the ball, but handed it to RYAN CHAPMAN for his chance of a hat trick on his last match for the hosts before he goes out to work and live in Greece for six months on Thursday. Ryan stepped up and smashed the ball home to give the score line a close feel to it. A really good game of football provided by two clubs at the wrong end of the league table and I must add how well I thought the 3 officials did.

WOLLATON KEEP THE PRESSURE ON

Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League
Premier Division
WOLLATON FC 3 FC CAVALIERS 0

After leaving Selston Reserves in the morning kick off, I was going to Underwood Villa v West Bridgford, but news had been filtering through that local ref Tim Gregory had headed up to do a pitch inspection and the game was off due to standing water down one side of the pitch, so on to my mobile and a quick call to check Wollaton was on sent us through the village roads and on our way. On arrival we was greeted by the Wollaton Committee and management and then I popped in to see Ibby todays referee and his assistants, then the FC Cavs changing room for a chat with manager Martin.

The game kicked off at a very good pace with both sides attacking, infact Cavs had a couple of good chances, but after 26 minutees, Sean Green smashed hiss shot against the bar and ALEX DOYLE was first to react to knock the ball home.

Wollaton needed that second goal but Cavs were playing as a good unit and chances were down to a bare minimum for the home club, though they had the lions share of the play, but Cavs were still in this game. As we were heading towards half time on 42 minutes, a corner from the right was floated in and top striker SCOTT LITCHFIELD headed home(see photo above).

After a half time cuppa it was back outside to pitchside where it began to snow for 5 minutes, but this didnt affect the committment from the players on both sides, as every tackle was earnt.  After 65 minutes came the goal of the game and the one that sewed up the points for Wollaton, from a long free kick, Scott Litchfield headed down and RYAN STARK hit home in a similar goal of the Hereford v Newcastle style in 1972 to make it 3-0.

Quote after the match from FC Cavaliers Manager Martin Hickey..I am very proud of the way my players have performed today

SMITH LEADS VILLA TO WOOD WIN

Precision Nottinghamshire Senior League
Division Two
SELSTON RESERVES 1 UNDERWOOD VILLA RESERVES 3

A early start to the day, as it was Chairmans Day at Selston FC, a annual event that has been staged since the Groundhop held there 4 years ago and one that I always support. The plan of the day was to go to Selston Reserves v Underwood Villa Reservees with a 11.30am kick off then down the road to Underwood Villa v West Bridgford, Plan A went well as me, Hazel and Shawn got to Selston in fine time, but all car parks were packed, but managed to get the final parking spot. Whilst Hazel was sorting out the Bacon Cobs, I popped in to see Referee David Hague to get the team line up;s

The game kicked off and strolled over to the stand side and joined local hoppers, Pete Watmough and Pete Chappell and Big Macc, the game started brightly for Selston by Underwood played on the break.

On 33 minutes, Villa got a corner on the right hand side which was floated in and STEVE SMITH headed home to give thhem the lead against his ex club. Within 5 minutes, Selston were back on level terms when KANE HEMPSHALL fired home. On 40 minutes, Villa showed they werent there to lay down and DEV LAWSON put them back in front.

During the half time interval, I took a look round the stalls that were on offer and Shawn wanted to hold a Bunny and have his photo taken

The Second half started and Villa looked brighter, but they say every game has a turning point and Selston could have been level, but Joe Toon on 62 minutes missed a penalty. This seemed to spur the visiotrs on aand after 68 minutes KALLUM GREAVES put the result out of Selston;s reach to make it 3-1

Felt the referee David Hague deserves a mention as he had a excellent match.
